Parametric Study of a Small Size 5.8 GHz Slotted Patch Antenna

- This paper presents a design of a coaxially fed microstrip patch antenna (MSPA) with multiple slots for applications in BAN (Body Area Networks), PAN (personal area network) and WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) at 5.8 GHz. The radiation characteristics and the impedance matching of the proposed antenna are evaluated. The parametric study of slot dimensions and position has been performed to optimize the design for high return loss and increased bandwidth. The maximum achievable bandwidth below -10dB is about 590 MHz with peak gain of 5.47dB. The reflection coefficient S11 of -42dB is obtained at resonating frequency of 5.8 GHz in the Industrial Scientific and Medical band (ISM).
