- A wireless sensor network (WSNs) consist of static nodes which are densely deployed over a sensing area. In wireless sensor environment each of the sensor nodes has data to send to a base station through a mobile agent, the major problem is to minimize the length of each data-gathering tour of a mobile data collector and minimize the total energy consumed by the sensors so that the network lifetime is maximized. Several sensor network data gathering protocols have been proposed. The approaches exploiting mobility for data collection in WSNs are categorized with respect to the properties of sink mobility as well as the wireless communication methods for data transfer: Mobile base station, Mobile data collector, Rendezvous-based solutions. In this survey, we discuss about the benefits and issues of data gathering approaches and comparison of the previously proposed approaches.
