- Electromagnetic interference, man-made noise, and multipath effects are main causes of bit errors in power-line communication. To design an efficient powerline transmission system, the channel characterization has to be known and this paper deals with a statistical noise model (SNM) for the indoor powerline channel in a frequency band from 1 MHz to 30 MHz . The SNM parameters are obtained from large-scale measurements of the noise density spectrum on a real powerline channel. All measurements are between line and neutral at different locations in the same grid. The SNM is used for simulation of the noise density spectrum and offline analysis on the powerline channel .
